The present building went up for Sultan Abdu00fclmecid in 1857, on the site of earlier wooden pavilions.

Getting there
On the Asian shore between the two Bosphorus bridges, near Anadolu Hisaru0131. Reachable by bus along the Asian coast road or by taxi from u00dcsku00fcdar.
How long to allow
Forty-five minutes including the garden. It is small u2014 two floors u2014 and it was built for short stays rather than residence, so there are no kitchens or bedrooms of note.
The meadow
Europeans called this stretch the Sweet Waters of Asia, and it was where Ottoman society came to picnic by caique on summer afternoons. Evliya u00c7elebi, the great 17th-century traveller, called the Gu00f6ksu 'the water of eternity'.
